Meet Hollie

My name is Hollie Burnett.  I learned to ride a bike in the summer of 2020.  I have always wanted to learn but never did and I wanted to be able to ride with my kids.

Let's face it, lockdown changed how we do a lot of things!  Going for a ride with my friends has become my favourite trip out. Especially if we can grab a coffee and some cake!

I like going out for a ride on my own, but I didn't feel confident on my own in case something happened to my bike.  What if I got a puncture, or my chain broke?  I started looking into how to do some basic fixes.  I found people want to help, but often this means doing something FOR me rather than teaching me to do it myself.  I got friends to teach me what they could, I went on courses to learn more and I volunteered for a social enterprise that ran a workshop so I could learn more about mechanics.

I fell in love with bikes.  I became addicted.  I love riding!  I love working on my bike!  Most of all I love passing on what I have learned to others so they can do the same.

You don't have to be at your peak fitness, or the best rider. Energise Cycles is all about getting together and having fun, building confidence and enjoying the company.  Come and join me!

Meet Joe

My name is Joe Grant. I started this organisation because I am passionate about cycling and it's power to transform lives!  I was a chemical engineer building recycling plants when mountain biking drew me here.

We live in such a beautiful area with so many awesome places to ride - and people to ride with!  As everyone knows, I am passionate about cycling and its effect on mental health and overall wellness.

I love mountain biking, but sometimes I pop on some lycra and get some real speed on a road ride, or blow off some steam on a gravel ride. I particularly love a morning spin if I know I can't get out that day, and if you catch me at the right time, I can even be found on a tandem!

I'm a fervent advocate for active travel and the power that learning a skill can provide someone which is why I really enjoy coaching and sharing my skills with others. I am now a MIAS Ride Leader Trainer (for mountain bike and road) and a coach.  I am a firm believer of 'when your bike is broken you fix it, when you are broken your bike fixes you.'
